Ambassador Melih Karalar was born in Ezine, Çanakkale, on 24 March 1971. He graduated from the Department of Public Administration at the Middle East Technical University in 1992.

He joined the Ministry of Foreign Affairs in 1995 and served in various positions in Turkish missions in Addis Ababa, Manila, Munich, Wellington, he had served as the Consul General in Sydney between 2017 and 2020.

At the Ministry’s headquarters, he held roles in Deputy Directorate Generals for Bilateral Economic Affairs, Administrative and Financial Affairs and Human Resources. From 2022 to 2025, he served as Deputy Director General for Human Resources.

In 2025, he was appointed as the Ambassador of the Republic of Türkiye to New Zealand, with accreditation to Fiji, Tonga, Samoa, Tuvalu, Cook Islands, and Niue.

Ambassador Karalar is married with one child. He speaks English.
